The Fairmont Dallas opened in 1969 to much local fanfare as Texas's first luxury hotel. At the time of its completion, the hotel was the tallest building in the city. On a clear day, one could see from the hotel's penthouse suite to the town of McKinney, 20 miles north.
Dubbed "the Arts District hotel," The Fairmont Dallas remains at the centre of Dallas's many attractions. The Dallas Museum of Art, Symphony Hall, and Arts District Theatre are all located within three blocks of the hotel.
Entertainment is an integral part of the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts tradition. Since its inception, The Fairmont Dallas has hosted every debutante, political and civic event in the city. The Venetian Room (styled after the famous Venetian Room of its sister hotel, The Fairmont San Francisco) has featured a multitude of performing artists, including Jerry Lewis, Sammy Davis Jr., The Platters, The Drifters and The Supremes.
